Purity on a certificate is a chromatographic figure: the main peak's area over the total area of every peak the detector recorded. That makes it relative. It reports how much of what eluted and absorbed at the chosen wavelength was the target, not how much peptide the vial holds by mass.
Area-percent, net content and identity are three measurements
Purity by HPLC asks what share of what the method saw was the target. Net peptide content asks what share of the vial's mass is peptide rather than water and salt. Identity asks whether the molecule is the right one.
A concentration taken from label mass therefore runs low when bound water and a counter-ion displace peptide. Whether net content was measured at all is stated on the lot's Certificate of Analysis, never implied by a purity line.
A percentage means little without its method
Loosen the gradient and closely eluting related substances merge into the main peak, lifting the figure without changing the material. Two suppliers quoting one number on different methods make different claims.
So record column, gradient and wavelength beside the value, and check the lot. Each VaultLabs shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis and a traceable lot number, and where analytical release is complete the published record can be matched to the vial label.
Frequently asked questions
- Does a higher percentage mean a better lot?
Not reliably. The figure is bounded by what the method resolves and detects, so a permissive separation flatters the material. A lower value with the impurity peaks itemised says more.
- Why does my own result differ from the certificate?
Different methods give different area-percent values from one vial. Confirm the lot matches, then compare method conditions before recording the gap as a failure.
- Is purity a specification or a result?
A result — one measurement of one lot. The limit it is judged against is the specification, and the two belong in different places in a qualification file.
