Educational checklist for research inventory teams handling lyophilized peptides.
Log the lot on intake
Record the lot number and receipt date against the order before the vial enters storage, so every later observation is attributable to a specific batch.
Verify the lot against its certificate
Resolve the lot number through batch verification and confirm the certificate matches the vial in hand before qualifying the material for use.
Store sealed vials per label and COA guidance
Hold lyophilized material sealed at the temperature stated on the label and certificate. Many research peptides are held at 2–8 °C until reconstitution; confirm per lot rather than assuming a single rule.
Limit light and moisture exposure
Keep vials in their original packaging away from direct light, and equilibrate a cold vial to room temperature before breaking the seal so humid air does not condense onto the cake.
Aliquot and label reconstituted solution
Split reconstituted material into single-use aliquots and record the diluent, reconstitution date and expiry in the LIMS. Freeze-thaw cycling degrades peptides faster than storage time alone.
Re-verify when qualifying a new lot
Treat each new lot as a separate qualification. A purity figure belongs to the lot it was measured on and does not carry across batches.
