The short answer
A peptide is a chain of amino acids joined by peptide bonds. Cells make thousands of them. Laboratories buy defined sequences as reference materials so an assay, a method, or a stability study is run against a known structure rather than a guess.

Peptide, protein, and why the length matters
Chemists usually call a short amino-acid chain a peptide and a long folded chain a protein. There is no single magic number — insulin is a small protein; some research peptides in this catalog are longer than insulin's A-chain — but the practical difference is handling, not branding.
Short sequences such as GHK-Cu (three residues plus copper) behave like small molecules in a chromatography column. A long incretin-class sequence such as retatrutide (molecular weight about 4114 g/mol) aggregates more easily, needs gentler reconstitution, and is harder to confirm by HPLC alone.
