Marketplaces and laboratory supply optimise for different things
A marketplace is designed to move a high volume of interchangeable goods with minimal friction between listing and checkout. That design is genuinely good for commodities, where one unit is equivalent to the next and the buyer needs price and speed.
Reference materials are not commodities in that sense. What a laboratory buys is not only the compound but the documentation attached to a specific lot, and the marketplace format has nowhere to put that.
