What ipamorelin is
Ipamorelin is a designed molecule rather than a natural sequence or a fragment of one. Its five residues include alpha-aminoisobutyric acid, a non-proteinogenic amino acid, and two D-configured residues — D-2-naphthylalanine and D-phenylalanine — with a C-terminal amide.
Those design choices are deliberate. D-amino acids and non-standard residues are not substrates for the proteases that recognise natural L-peptides, so the molecule resists degradation that would rapidly clear a conventional pentapeptide. It also means the material behaves differently from a standard peptide in ways worth checking rather than assuming.
Functionally it targets GHS-R1a, the receptor for ghrelin. The literature emphasises selectivity: earlier secretagogues in the same class showed activity at additional endocrine axes, and ipamorelin was characterised as substantially more confined in its receptor engagement.

For a peptide containing D-residues, note that standard reversed-phase methods do not distinguish stereochemistry — a D-to-L substitution can be chromatographically invisible, so identity confidence rests on the manufacturing chain and mass analysis rather than the chromatogram alone.
The same blind spot applies to mass. A D-amino acid and its L counterpart are isomers with identical mass, so neither HPLC nor routine mass spectrometry will separate them. Distinguishing them requires a method chosen for the purpose, such as chiral chromatography or amino-acid analysis after hydrolysis. Most purchasing laboratories will not run that routinely, which is why the credibility of the synthesis route matters more for this peptide than for a conventional L-sequence.
Store sealed lyophilised vials at 2–8 °C, protected from light and moisture, and equilibrate before opening. After reconstitution, prepare close to the point of use, record diluent and date, and keep freeze-thaw cycles low. The non-standard residues make the molecule resistant to proteolysis but not to hydrolysis, oxidation or aggregation, so the usual solution-handling discipline still applies.
