What Pinealon is
Pinealon is a three-residue peptide. Glutamic acid, aspartic acid and arginine in that order give a short, highly polar sequence with two acidic side chains and a basic guanidinium. That composition is the whole chemical identity: there is no lipid tail, no metal ion and no cyclic constraint. Laboratories buy a defined tripeptide, not a pineal extract.
The name sits in the Khavinson short-peptide literature, where EDR is discussed as a pineal-associated sequence and, in some papers, as a fragment isolated from a polypeptide preparation. Catalog material is the synthetic tripeptide. A certificate that describes Glu-Asp-Arg does not describe Cortexin or any other multi-component tissue preparation, and the reverse is also true.
The nearest naming collision on this shelf is Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). Both are short Khavinson peptides, both arrive as white lyophilised cakes, and both are ordered by laboratories that read the same review papers. They differ in sequence, mass, CAS number and lot family. A requisition that says only "pineal peptide 10 mg" is under-specified.
Where the research literature sits
The accessible English-language record is small and almost entirely preclinical. Khavinson, Ribakova and colleagues reported in Rejuvenation Research (2011) that synthetic pinealon restricted reactive-oxygen-species accumulation and necrotic death in cerebellar granule cells, neutrophils and PC12 cells under oxidative challenge, and that higher concentrations continued to alter cell-cycle markers after the antioxidant effect had saturated. That is cell-culture work.
A 2021 Molecules review by Khavinson, Linkova, Kozhevnikova and Trofimova summarises proposed gene-expression and protein-synthesis mechanisms for EDR in Alzheimer's-disease model systems, including in vitro neuronal cultures. The review also restates older clinical-sounding claims from sources that are harder to retrieve. For procurement and method design, the transferable content is the chemical identity of EDR and the fact that the published experimental systems are cultures and animals — not an authorised human indication.

Analytical characterisation and handling
Release is by reversed-phase HPLC against a stated purity specification, with the certificate tied to the vial lot number. At three residues the chromatogram is simple, but small acidic peptides can elute early and can be mistaken for solvent-front artefacts if the method is not written for them. Mass confirmation is the straightforward identity check: 418.40 g/mol for the free peptide.
Store sealed lyophilised vials at 2–8 °C, protected from light and humidity, and equilibrate to room temperature before opening so Gulf humidity does not condense onto the cake. After reconstitution, prepare working solutions close to the point of use, record the diluent and date, and keep freeze-thaw cycles logged. The certified purity applies to the released lyophilised material, not to a solution held over time.
Aspartyl peptides can undergo succinimide formation in solution. That is a general peptide-chemistry consideration rather than a Pinealon-specific specification, and it is why a laboratory that needs the intact sequence should not treat an old reconstituted aliquot as equivalent to a freshly opened vial.
